According to local media reports, Leeds United are interested in signing Italian striker Leonardo Pavoretti.
Sky Italia reports that Leeds United are thought to have made contact with representatives of Sassuolo striker Leonardo Pavoretti.
The 25-year-old was a regular for Sassuolo during the club’s 2012/13 promotion campaign from Serie B, notching 11 goals over the course of that season.
After promotion, however, he returned to Italy’s second division in a loan spell with Varese, where he notched another 20 goals in just 33 appearances.
Serie B side Varese want to make his transfer permanent, yet the reported €700,000 asking price appears to be out of their reach.
Leeds United under new owner Massimo Cellino, however, appears to be interested in the player, who could be one of a number of potential signings from Italy on their way to Elland Road this summer.
The Championship club is thought to have already contacted Pavoretti's agent over a potential deal, and there could be a further meeting next week.
Alongside fellow Leeds United goalscorer Ross McCormack, it’s a potential strike force which could send shock waves through England’s second division and put Leeds in the frame for a return to the top flight.
One potential snag in the deal, though, comes from the alleged interest from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim. The German side are also said to have shown an interest, and they might be viewed by the player as a bigger pull than Leeds at this moment in time.
If Cellino is serious about returning the club to the Premier League, however, his links to quality players in Italy could be a huge advantage for Leeds as they seek promotion next season.
