Millwall 2-0 Stoke City: Charlie Cresswell scores twice for Lions - Sky 30/7/22

Report and highlights from the Sky Bet Championship clash between Millwall and Stoke City at The Den as Charlie Cresswell scored twice on his Lions debut to seal an opening day victory for Gary Rowett's side. Charlie Cresswell scored twice on his debut as Millwall opened their Championship campaign with a comfortable 2-0 victory against disappointing Stoke at The Den. The Lions have long been a team capable of threatening from set-pieces and it was from this means that they claimed both of their goals, with their lead rarely being threatened. The Potters, meanwhile, have been stuck in mid-table purgatory for the past few seasons and their insipid display in south London will need to be improved upon greatly if they are to even reach that this time around. Benik Afobe, who left Stoke for Millwall permanently over the summer, had an early opening for the hosts but failed to anticipate Billy Mitchell's cross falling for him at the back post and could not control. But it ...

JAMIE SHACKLETON JOINS MILLWALL ON LOAN - Leedsunited.com 19/7/22

Image
Leeds United midfielder Jamie Shackleton has joined Sky Bet Championship side Millwall, on a season-long loan deal. The 22-year-old academy graduate has played 79 times for the Whites since making his debut in 2018 and was a key part of the squad which so memorably gained promotion to the Premier League as champions, in the 2019/20 season. Since playing in the top-flight, Shackleton has made 27 appearances throughout the last two seasons and he will now link up with fellow academy graduate Charlie Cresswell at The Den, after the defender also joined the Lions on loan for the upcoming campaign. Shackleton will now be looking to help Millwall as the side aim to build on a ninth-place finish in the second-tier last season. We wish Jamie the best of luck during his time away from the club.

Leeds United’s Jamie Shackleton is set to join Millwall on a season-long loan with a medical booked in for the 22-year-old By Joe Donnohue Leeds midfielder Jamie Shackleton is set to join up with Charlie Cresswell on loan at Championship side Millwall for the 2022/23 season. 22-year-old Shackleton has missed Leeds’ pre-season tour of Australia in order to push through his loan switch. He follows teenage centre-back and England Under-21 international Cresswell to The Den where he will work under Gary Rowett. South London Press report Shackleton is due for a medical with his loan move set to be all tied up this week. Unlike Cresswell’s straight loan deal, Shackleton’s switch could be made permanent next summer in a similar situation to Tyler Roberts who joined fellow London side Queens Park Rangers on loan earlier this window. Shackleton’s Leeds deal expires in 2024 and has racked up 78 appearances across all competitions for his boyhood club since joining United at the age...

Leeds United youngster makes vow upon loan move and explains transfer chance - YEP 4/7/22

Young Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell has explained why a season-long loan move to Millwall is just what he needs. By Lee Sobot Cresswell has made a big impression at Leeds in progressing through the club's Academy and into the first team for whom the 19-year-old has had seven outings so far. The centre-back is now a regular starter for England's under-21s and the teen says the pressure of playing regularly for Championship outfit Millwall is the ideal step in his development. The York-born youngster has joined the London outfit until the end of the season and the defender has vowed to give his all for the Lions. “I’m here on loan so I'm delighted to be here,” Cresswell told Millwall’s official website. “I’m going to be giving my all for this club and for this moment in time I’m a Millwall player and I’ll do everything I can to help this club and I’m sure I’ll show you that. “I think I’m a player who brings a lot of determination and a lot of aggressio...

Leeds United: All to play for - Thompson - Yorkshire Evening Post 18/2/15

by Phil Hay Leeds United number two Steve Thompson believes the club would be wrong to think they are safe from relegation – but says the play-offs should not be seen as an impossibility either. Neil Redfearn’s assistant wants Leeds to show “no complacency” after surging away from the bottom end of the Championship last week but previous promotion bids during his time as coach at Blackpool have made Thompson reluctant to give up on a top-six finish. United are 15 points adrift of the play-offs with 15 games to go and more attention is being given to the small margin between Redfearn’s squad and the relegation zone ahead of Saturday’s visit to Championship leaders Middlesbrough. Leeds climbed eight places to 12th last week with wins over Reading and Millwall. Rotherham United manager Steve Evans, however, warned Redfearn on Monday that his team were still at risk of the drop. “I keep hearing that they’re mid-table but it goes all the way up to inside the top half,” Evans said. “I ...
