Di Canio chances fade as Leeds ‘fail to make contact’

Yorkshire Post 3/6/14
Paolo Di Canio looks unlikely to emerge as a managerial option for Leeds United after his agent said that the former Sunderland and Swindon Town boss had received no contact about the vacancy at Elland Road.
Di Canio, who is out of work after leaving Sunderland last year, has featured in the betting markets since the departure of Brian McDermott from Leeds but is yet to be approached by the club’s Italian owner, Massimo Cellino.
Cellino was due to meet a series of candidates for the position of head coach this week after United and McDermott parted company by mutual consent last Friday.
But Di Canio, who began his coaching career at Swindon in 2011, does not appear to be on Cellino’s list of options.
Phil Spencer, Di Canio’s representative, said: “Paolo doesn’t really comment on positions until there’s something to consider.
“It’s silly to speculate and at the moment we’re being asked every day about this club and that club. Every club knows where we are but I haven’t been approached by Leeds.”
