Jesse Marsch says sometimes he should wear a lab coat rather than a tracksuit so scientifically is he monitoring his Leeds United players, who have been given individual “action plans” to improve every aspect of their games. By Stuart Rayner Cameron Toshack has been made an “individual coach”, working with them on a one-to-one basis as part of head coach Marsch’s holistic approach. “I sometimes say I feel like I’m wearing a lab coat because I’m evaluating their nutrition, their weights, their loading, their gym work, their sleep, their wellness app, and working carefully with (head of medicine and performance) Rob Price and the entire medical team to make sure as physical specimens we’re maximising the potential of who they are and what they can be become,” said Marsch. “Then we add the tactics, the football, the mentality and the work ethic and to create high-performing machines in a way that’s respectful of their lives and who they are as people. Leeds United are pleased to confirm Jesse Marsch’s backroom team that will be in place until the end of the season. Franz Schiemer joins the Whites having previously worked with Marsch as his Assistant Head Coach at Red Bull Salzburg. As a player, the 35-year-old made over 150 appearances for Salzburg winning 25 caps for the Austrian national team. Former Swansea City coach Cameron Toshack also joins the new-look set up having left his role as Head Coach at Cypriot First Division side Pafos FC in October 2020. Toshack brings a wealth of experience to the role having worked at both Academy and first team levels since 2011. Finally, Jesse will be supported by our current Under-23s Head Coach Mark Jackson who will move up to first team duties. Jackson is a popular figure at Elland Road and has overseen the development of various players who are now involved with the first team squad. Jesse Marsch and Cameron Toshack will have to work quickly to turn around Leeds United's season. By Flora Snelson The Whites are two points clear of the relegation zone, with 12 games left of the Premier League season. Following Marcelo Bielsa's sacking on Sunday, Marsch has been handed the responsibility of guiding the West Yorkshire side to safety. United have lost five of their last six games and looked a shadow of their former self against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, so securing Leeds' Premier League status for the 2022/2023 season will be no mean feat for the American coach. With the rest of his backroom staff yet to be announced, it has been confirmed that Marsch will be assisted by Toshack as he strives to keep Leeds in the top flight. Who is Cameron Toshack?
