Leeds United: Cellino steps up his efforts to formally sell Cagliari

LEEDS UNITED owner Massimo Cellino is to meet with an American group of investors interested in taking over Serie A side Cagliari later today.
Italians sources suggest the sale of Cagliari could be formalised within a week, with Cellino to begin direct talks with the prospective US buyers in the States today.
Also in the bidding to take over Cagliari in a reported £40m deal is former Inter Milan director Tommaso Giulini
Giulini, 37, has close links to the Moratti family, who owned Inter until selling their majority stake last year.
Giulini was believed to be Cellino’s prefered option, but he will now engage in discussions with the US group after seemingly bowing to pressure from Cagliari fans to speak to them.
Speaking to the Italian press, Cellino said: “The Sardinians want the Americans.
“Because of this, I have to please them (the fans), even if I extend the agony.”
Cellino has been in charge of the Serie A side since 1992, but has been looking to sell since taking control of Leeds.
Meanwhile, young United defender Charlie Taylor has crowned a dream few weeks by helping loan side Fleetwood Town achieve promotion to the third tier of English football.
The left-back, who signed a new three-year deal at Elland Road last week, was part of the Cod Army side who beat Burton Albion 1-0 in the League Two play-off final at Wembley.
The York-born player is hoping his breakthrough season at Fleetwood will prove the stepping stone to a regular run in the United line-up, having failed to establish himself yet at Leeds after making his full debut just short of his 18th birthday in September 2011.
He said: “I will now go back to Leeds and enjoy pre-season training and hopefully hit the ground running and get a chance next season to prove myself at Leeds.
“I have never played at an occasion like this. Playing at Leeds, I was just in the reserves.
“But I think playing week-in and week-out in League Two has helped me so much.
“Promotion is such a huge thing and to go up through the play-offs makes it that extra bit special, I think.”
