Reports from a local Sardinian newspaper indicates Leeds United could sign up to six Cagliari players.
According to Sardinian newspaper La Nuova Sardegna, Leeds United could sign up six Cagliari players this summer as an article, which involved questions put to the new Cagliari owner Tommasso Guilini, stated that a number of players could be leaving the club.
The report states: For the rest, we don't know the future of Pinilla [contract expiring in 2015] and Ibarbo. But even Murru, Avelar, Ibraimi, Nene, Del Fabro could be going, maybe in the direction of Leeds. Even Eriksson - who started yesterday at the Villa Stuart [Rome], physical therapy after surgery for reconstruction of the cruciate ligament, and will return to the field for mid-October - could end up in Yorkshire.
The six players indicated to be wanted by Leeds United will come as no surprise to supporters who were expecting Cellino to call on his Italian links to help rebuild the club for next season. However, apart from Del Fabro and Seb Eriksson, the names are relatively new links to the Yorkshire club.
So who are they?
Left back - Nicola Murru, 19, is an Italian youth international, like Del Fabro, and has played 23-times for Cagliari since 2011. In fact, his last international call-up was in April this year for the Italian U-21s, which indicates he would come in with a very good reputation.
Left back - Danilo Avelar, 25, is of Brazilian nationality and has played in Brazil, Ukraine, Germany and Italy since 2010, which includes a stint at Bundesliga side Schakle 04.
Winger - Agrim Ibraimi, 25, is a Macedonia international and one of the more experienced players out of the six listed. He, like Avelar, has played in a number of different countries and leagues including Slovenia and Austria.
Striker - Nene, 30, is a former Boca Junior player and is by far the most experienced player on the list. In five years at Cagliari, he has played 124-games and scored 23 goals.
Centre back - Dario Del Fabro, 19, is a highly-rated Italian youth international and a graduate through the Cagliari youth system. He has played a handful of games for the first-team, but has struggled to hold down a first-team place.
Centre midfielder - Sebastian Eriksson, 25, is a Swedish international with a very good pedigree, but faces a long injury lay-off. Although he would prove to be a big signing for Leeds, he may have to wait until January for his move.
The six players seem to blend between talented youth players, like Del Fabro and Murru, and proven experienced players, like Eriksson and Nene, which could prove a shrewd move by Cellino.
Daniele Cacia is expected to be the first player through the door with Italian links, but it looks likely more could follow. It has been well-documented that this could be the case following Cellino's takeover and next season could prove to be a mixed-bag for Leeds United fans.
