Cellino’s tax trial date set for October

Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino will face another trial for alleged tax evasion in Italy on October 2.
Cellino, who was previously found guilty of failing to pay import duty on a yacht in March, is accused of avoiding around £75,000 of tax due on a second boat – Lucky 23.
At a hearing in Sardinia on Thursday, Cellino’s trial was scheduled to take place in the first week of October.
The 57-year-old, pictured right, denies the charges against him.
His case is due to be ruled upon by judge Sandra Lepore, the same official who convicted Cellino of tax evasion two months ago.
Cellino was fined around £400,000 and had a luxury boat named Nelie confiscated on March 18.
The conviction led the Football League to disqualify him from buying Leeds, a decision which Cellino subsequently overturned on appeal.
He completed his takeover of the club on April 7.
Cellino was not present at Thursday’s hearing in Cagliari and has returned to his home in Miami after spending almost a month in England, dealing with United’s financial problems.
Meanwhile Championship champions Leicester City have signed Brighton’s veteran defender Matt Upson and Jack Barmby, the son of former Leeds star Nick, ahead of their return to the Premier League.
