Leeds United: Door remains open to everyone - Hockaday
Yorkshire Evening Post 20/6/14
David Hockaday says he expects to find hidden gems in Leeds United’s squad, despite the club’s fraught finish to the last Championship season.
United’s new head coach plans to open the door to players who have struggled to make an impact at Leeds – including striker Steve Morison.
Morison was signed by Leeds as part of a swap deal for Luciano Becchio in January 2013 but he went loan to Millwall last season, moved out of Elland Road by former boss Brian McDermott.
Leeds owner Massimo Cellino revealed that Morison would be fully involved next term, saying: “He needs to show if he’s still a good player because he used to be.”
And Hockaday said: “When I was playing at Swindon, we got two promotions playing a direct style under Lou Macari. Then Ossie Ardiles came and played a diamond with pretty much the same players.
“Don’t be surprised if some of the players pleasantly surprise you and if they are better than they showed last year.”
