Leeds United's Daniel Farke makes Cody Drameh comment amid failed Max Aarons move - Leeds Live 10/8/23
Leeds United tried to sign Max Aarons this week, according to reports, casting doubt on Cody Drameh's future
Daniel Farke refused to be drawn on what the future might
hold for Cody Drameh following Leeds United’s interest in Max Aarons this week.
According to reports, the Whites had a deal in place to sign Aarons from
Norwich City alongside Joe Rodon, who appears to be on his way from Tottenham Hotspur.
But the move seems to have fallen through thanks to a late
approach from Premier League Bournemouth, who have secured a deal to sign the
right-back. Aarons is versatile and can play on the left, but he is primarily
seen as a right-back, where Leeds are currently well-stocked, with Luke Ayling
and Cody Drameh as well as Sam Byram, who has just penned a one-year deal with
the Whites, within their ranks.
As such, the interest in Aarons came as something of a
surprise and seemed to cast doubt on the long-term future of Drameh at Elland
Road. Drameh returned from injury on Wednesday night, stepping off the bench to
make a short five minute cameo as Leeds saw off Shrewsbury Town 2-1 in the
Carabao Cup.
But, speaking after the game, Farke was unable to provide
clarity on the situations regarding both right-backs.
“I don't speak about any players currently under contract
with a different team,” he said when asked about Aarons. “So I just speak about
my players who are available and not about possible incomings or something like
this.”
Asked what the interest in such a player meant for Drameh,
Farke added: “No comments from my side to other players and I don't also base
my answers on such a question.
“We need each and every player and I’m happy that Cody's
right now back. He was two weeks out injured and not available. Just one day of
training with the team. Normally it's not enough to make it to the game day
spot.
“But today yeah, it was due to the situation that we had to
play without several players and so we need him even a bit too early back and
it's good that he also was able to play this 10 minutes or however long he was
on the pitch. And without an injury. It's good to have him back.”
Drameh has been regularly linked away from Leeds this summer
with Premier League sides Burnley and Luton Town said to be carrying interest.
