JESSE MARSCH: AT HOME THEY ARE INCREDIBLY GOOD - Leedsunited.com 27/10/22

Jesse Marsch gave his thoughts to the media ahead of Saturday’s trip to face Liverpool, at his pre-match press conference on Thursday afternoon.

The Whites will head to Anfield looking to end a run of matches without picking up points, against Jurgen Klopp’s side who are also aiming to return to winning ways in the Premier League after losing last time out.

As always, the head coach began with an update on the fitness of his squad, prior to the weekend.

He said: “Stuart Dallas and Adam Forshaw are still out.

“In addition, questionable are Leo Hjelde and then Joffy [Joe Gelhardt], Rodrigo, Luis [Sinisterra] and Tyler Adams are all a bit in question.

“We’ll see how the next 48 hours goes for all of those players."

Prior to any further matches being played this weekend, the Reds currently sit in eighth place in the table, with four wins from 11 matches played up to now.

Despite the unusual form of Saturday’s hosts, everyone in the Leeds United camp knows the challenge of the side they are facing at Anfield.

“I know Liverpool, and I’ve got to know Jurgen Klopp a bit over the years,” Marsch explained.

“He is relentless in his commitment to make his team better and his belief of way he does things.

“Liverpool have been one of the best in world over last four or five years. I think that no matter what, it’s a group of professional players who understand what the demands are.

“Their backs have been against the wall already a little bit this year, in different ways than where we are at.

“We know the quality they have, at home they’re incredibly good and the way they responded in the game against Ajax shows everything.

“We’re expecting their absolute best.”

Jack Harrison has given his thoughts on the clash, ahead of the weekend.

The Whites haven’t won away from home yet this season and that is something Harrison wants the side to change, but knows it will be another tough encounter against the Reds.

After narrowly losing last time out against Fulham, Harrison was asked about the recent form of the side and how that can improve.

“Really disappointing, it’s been like that for a few games now,” he responded.

“We’ve been playing well and up until the final third it’s been good, we just can’t finish off the last action or get the goals we need.

“So, it’s something we’ve been working hard on, trying to find solutions to finish games off and get the points we’ve been deserving for the last few games.

“It’s so important to stick together as a team and try to stay positive.

“We’ve been working really hard as a team and I think that’s what is great about being here, everyone brings their best every day and is willing to improve the team in whatever way we need to."

Saturday’s opponents Liverpool haven’t been showing the usual form that everyone has been used to seeing so far this season and lost against Nottingham Forest last time out, but the Leeds United winger is aware of the challenge facing his side.

“It was definitely a surprise,” Harrison stated, after seeing the Reds lose against Forest.

“You look at the squad and the team they’ve got, I don’t have to say anything really.

“It’s going to be difficult. I think you can expect a difficult game against them regardless of their previous result and we know we have to give everything.

“We know that we can achieve our goal and hopefully get the three points, that’s something we are striving for.

“We know it’s achievable. We’re going to be pushing for as many points as we can and just give it everything.”
