Pochettino linked with Leeds United switch amid Jesse Marsch uncertainty
LeedsLive journalist Beren Cross does not see former
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino accepting the Leeds United job.
He admits that if Leeds were to sack Jesse Marsch, the
Argentine would want assurances of a decent amount of spending and the
structure ready to win trophies.
After his recent stint at Paris St. Germain, he is not going
to take up a job at a club that’s in the relegation zone, despite Jeff Stelling
recently hinting at it on Sky Sports News on Tuesday night (25 October,
07:13pm).
Cross replied on his Q&A, “As much as many people would
love to see heads coaches of that calibre arrive at Elland Road, I can’t see
them taking a position in the PL’s bottom three. I can’t seem them (Pochettino
and Andre Villas-Boas) going anywhere without assurances on player investment
or realistic trophy opportunities. Hard to see them taking the risk they have a
relegation on their CV.”
Most Leeds fans would love seeing a manager like Pochettino
at the helm, especially after what he’s achieved in the Premier League.
He played scintillating football at Southampton and has been
seen as one of the pioneers of bringing the high press to England.
He also saw Spurs punch above their weight to finish top
four every season and famously guided them to the Champions League final as
well.
However, after managing in Europe’s elite and winning the
league title last term, he could view the Leeds job as a step down.
Pochettino also appeared to turn down the Aston Villa job
even though they would give him a decent transfer budget that would exceed that
of Leeds.
Hopefully, they make the call to sack Marsch as soon as
possible as this does not seem sustainable for the long term.
