Latest Kieran Maguire report shows Leeds United’s crazy net spend since 2021 is higher than Aston Villa — Leeds United News 7/2/25

Leeds United have spent a fair amount of money over the past transfer windows but their overall net spend could make you jump out of your seat.

This doesn’t apply to the most recent window after Leeds didn’t spend a single penny in the recent market.

The 49ers expected signings at Leeds and this may have frustrated the Whites fans when they didn’t see an incoming walk through the door.

However, signings have been made and players have left in large capacities over the last couple of years.

From Leeds’ stint in the Premier League to recent Championship seasons, their net spend makes for surprising viewing.

Kieran Maguire report shows Leeds United’s crazy net spend since 2021

During the summer Leeds gained £115m after transfers and it was a busy transfer window, to say the least. The likes of Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter leaving helped Leeds’ transfer figures, but between 2021-25 it shows that Leeds definitely needed some financial gain.

Football finance expert, Kieran Maguire, has revealed the highest net spend in England over the last four seasons, and Leeds feature on the expensive side of the list, eclipsing the likes of Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, and aren’t too far behind Liverpool (bottom graphic).

The 49ers will have to be careful if Leeds gain Premier League promotion

The signs point to the 49ers being sustainable at Leeds after the summer and the recent January window, but the net spend of -£268m will have to be improved.

If promotion to the Premier League occurs, the Leeds owners could find themselves getting carried away in the top flight.

Paraag Marathe said Leeds will be ‘aggressive’ with transfers and that could certainly happen next season.

PSR will potentially be monitored at Leeds if they go extreme with transfers in the summer, as the 49ers will be well aware of what they have to do.

Although the Leeds faithful will like the Whites’ energy with transfers, the owners can’t give in to fan pressure and they must stick to their guns of being sensible.
