Report: Watford 0-4 Leeds United — Leedsunited.com 11/2/25
Another big win away from home!
Returning to Sky Bet Championship action, Leeds United
travelled away from home to face Watford under the lights of Vicarage Road.
Daniel Farke opted to name the same XI which had won the
last league outing away at Coventry, which meant 10 changes from the Emirates
FA Cup exit over the weekend.
When the game got going, a fast start saw a chance at either
end. Quick football allowed Joel Piroe to have a shot towards goal which was
deflected wide. Similarly at the other end, Edo Kayambe was found on the edge
of the box from a corner, and his strike was also deflected behind to safety.
Egil Selvik, between the posts for the Hornets, was forced
into action for the first time around the 15 minute mark. Manor Solomon broke
forward, played the ball to Brenden Aaronson who in turn fed Piroe into the
box, he cut back on his right and shot, only to see the ‘keeper save.
The Whites did take the lead shortly after though! Dan James
capitalised on a loose pass from Kayembe, he raced through the centre of the
Watford defence and showed superb composure to slot the ball into the far
corner.
One would quickly become two, with another excellent team
move and finish to double the advantage!
Aaronson was the player to progress through the midfield, he
played a defence-splitting pass to Piroe who looked up and found James again,
allowing the winger to run into the box and smash his second into the roof of
the net!
Down the opposite end, Illan Meslier was then called into
action and made an excellent stop. Moussa Sissoko was released into the area
and one-on-one with the ‘keeper, though our number 1 won the battle by saving
well.
Straight back on the attack and looking to extend their
advantage, Leeds did just that by scoring a third before the break!
Quick thinking from Junior Firpo saw the fullback find
Solomon with a clever throw in and from there, he turned and shot from outside
the box, finding the far corner via a deflection to make it three!
A final chance before the whistle fell to the Whites again,
and so close to completing a hat-trick in spectacular style, James saw Selvik
off his line but his long-range effort went just wide.
HALF TIME: Watford 0-3 Leeds United
Back out in Hertfordshire, the teams returned from their
respective dressing rooms for the second 45 minutes with the visitors three
goals ahead.
With no change to the scoreline or flow of the game, the
home side made a triple change on the hour-mark. Tom Ince, Rocco Vata and
Yasser Larouci all entered the game looking to get their side back into it.
However, it would then be Leeds who extended the lead
further, with yet another stunning team move to carve the Hornets open.
Much was owed to Ao Tanaka in the build up, exchanging
passes and pushing forward. He played Solomon into the box, who then found
Piroe and from there the striker showed quick feet to beat the remaining
defenders before slotting home!
Not settling for four, the Whites went looking for five, and
came close. Aaronson played a superb backheel for James but he struck wide in
the box when looking for his hat-trick. Moments later, Tanaka was the next to
shoot and he also narrowly fired past the post.
Having spent 75 minutes causing the hosts non-stop problems,
both James and Solomon were replaced as Willy Gnonto and Largie Ramazani
entered proceedings. Moments later another double swap saw Joe Rothwell and
Mateo Joseph come on for Tanaka and Piroe.
Watford had their best chances inside the final five
minutes. It fell for Giorgi Chakvetadze who collected in the box, but his shot
cannoned over off the top of the bar and with their next attack, Meslier made
an excellent save to deny Imran Louza's effort.
The whistle sounded and confirmed another impressive win
away from home. Farke’s side will now return to action on home turf on Monday,
when they face Sunderland at Elland Road.
