Victor Orta confirmed as Sevilla sporting director in first role since Leeds United exit - Leeds Live 20/6/23

Victor Orta has been appointed as Sevilla's sporting
director as he returns to football for the first time since leaving Leeds
United last month.
Orta returns to Sevilla to replace his mentor, the outgoing
Monchi, who heads in the opposite direction to England to link up with Unai
Emery at Aston Villa. The former Leeds man has signed a three-year deal with
the La Liga side.
Orta left Leeds United last month amid fan anger as the club
hurtled towards Premier League relegation. He joined the club in 2017 after a
short spell at Middlesbrough, with Andrea Radrizzani 'deeply saddened' by his
exit, crediting Orta with 'some of the best moments of my time as owner of
Leeds United'.
Orta has now been confirmed in his first role since leaving
Elland Road, returning to Sevilla, where he previously spent over a decade
working under Monchi as a technical director. He has big shoes to fill, with
Monchi helping the Spanish club win the Europa League on no fewer than seven
occasions after last month's latest success.
He will take on similar responsibilities to those he held at
Leeds as part of his role as director of football.
Speaking after his departure last month, Radrizzani said: “I
am deeply saddened by the way that this chapter closes as Victor has been
responsible for some of the best moments of my time as owner of Leeds United
and I thank him and his people for all they have done in the past six years.
However, it is clear that it is time to change direction and therefore we have
agreed that Victor will leave the club.”
Leeds are yet to appoint a replacement for Orta. Nick
Hammond has been appointed interim football advisor and expects to appoint
someone to the vacant director of football role by October.
