AS Roma are close to signing Leeds United defender Diego
Llorente on a permanent deal.
The Spain centre-back spent the second half of the season on
loan to Serie A side Roma, featuring in 12 matches in all competitions
including a 15-minute cameo as an extra-time substitute in the Europa League
final loss against Sevilla.
Roma had initially refused to make his move permanent for
€18 million (£15.4 million) at the end of the 2022/23 season but are now
renegotiating with Leeds for a transfer of the 29-year-old.
According to reports by journalist Fabrizio Romano, the
Giallorossi have already agreed personal terms with Llorente and are optimistic
of sealing the deal with his club.
This will become the second deal that Roma have concluded
with an English team this summer, following their £ 9.5 million sale of
24-year-old Netherlands striker Justin Kluivert to Bournemouth.
Llorente made 59 appearances for The Whites since joining
the club from La Liga side Real Sociedad, scoring four goals for the Premier
League side.
Leeds will also soon be busy evaluating bids for United
States midfielder Tyler Adams who is the subject of interest from Brighton Hove
and Albion who are considering a £25 million bid.
Premier League sides Aston Villa, Arsenal, Newcastle United,
Nottingham Forest and Everton are all reportedly monitoring the 24-year-old's
situation.
