Neil Redfearn hailed Alex Mowatt as an “outstanding talent” after the midfielder netted both United goals in Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw with Charlton.
The 19-year-old, who claimed the Man of the Match award, took his tally to four for the season and made it three from his last two games with a stunning double at Elland Road.
Mowatt rifled a 49th-minute opener into the top corner and curled an exquisite second past the helpless Stephen Henderson on 67 minutes, but each goal was cancelled out by efforts from Johann Berg Gudmundsson.
Redfearn worked with Mowatt as a youngster in the club’s Academy and the midfielder has progressed through the ranks to become a key figure in the first team following his breakthrough last season.
"He’s an outstanding talent," said Redfearn.
"We’ve got to keep these young players because these young players are going to make this team great again."
Redfearn will be without Giuseppe Bellusci, though, for Saturday’s visit of Blackpool after the defender picked up his fifth booking of the season and will serve a one-match ban.
"We’re going to have a look at what we’ve got, people are going to have to come in and pick up the baton now," said Redfearn.
"It’s important that your squad players are ready. I had a group in during the morning that have worked really hard and these players are going to get dragged through it.
"We’re going do it, we’re going to work hard and we’re going to get what we need out of them."
