Confidence is back - Redfearn - United head coach sees positive signs

United head coach Neil Redfearn says the confidence is back among his squad and believes Tuesday's display against Charlton was a big step in the right direction.
Alex Mowatt scored a stunning double in Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw at Elland Road, but Charlton twice came from behind to extend United’s winless run to eight games.
Redfearn was encouraged by the performance, though, having suffered a 3-1 defeat at Cardiff in his first game since being appointed on a full-time basis.
"I thought we played much better, I thought it was a good performance," said Redfearn. "I thought we were the better side.
"I’m disappointed with the fact that they didn’t get the result they deserved but it’s an improvement from the Cardiff game.
"We’re in a position where we’ve had a bad run, it’s something I’ve inherited. But we’re in a place now where we’ve got the confidence and belief back to go and get results again.
"Results help, but good performances help as well.
"They came in after the game and were a little bit disappointed and a little bit flat, but no way should they come in disappointed and flat by the way they played, because they played well.
"We’ll play in games this season where we play worse than that and win."
Redfearn has been looking to address a number of issues on the training ground as he looks for a first win since September and believes the right preparation will bring the rewards.
"You’ve got to earn that bit of luck. You’ve got to defend better, you’ve got to clear the box better. We’ve got to be more thorough in and around their box," he said.
"We’ve done a lot of that this week, about working with the back fours, about being outnumbered and defending out of balance.
"These are all things that are realistic and happening in a game. If we want to get forward and score goals when we commit bodies forward, at times we’re going to get out of shape.
"We’re on a run that’s not great at the moment but I thought on Tuesday night we looked much more like ourselves and much more like a Neil Redfearn side.
"Now we want to take that into Saturday’s game against Blackpool and get the three points."
