Patrick Bamford, Asmir Begovic moment brings FA intervention as QPR get justice after Leeds United error – Leeds All Over 7/10/23

QPR goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has seen his red card
suspension during Leeds United’s win on Wednesday rescinded following an FA
review.
The Whites are gearing up for another home clash this week
after seeing off QPR on Wednesday where Crysencio Summerville’s early strike
settled the match at 1-0.
Leeds weren’t at their best, but didn’t really need to be in
order to come out of a meeting with Gareth Ainsworth’s men on the victorious
side.
With the game heading towards a routine win for Leeds,
Pascal Struijk found the run of Patrick Bamford in stoppage time with a
searching long ball, as the striker knocked it past an approaching Asmir
Begovic, who lunged in with his studs high in the air.
Begovic’s challenge saw Bamford go to ground, but there was
no contact from the R’s stopper, as Bamford quickly got up and immediately
gestured to Begovic as if he knew there wasn’t anything in the tackle.
Begovic’s reaction didn’t help maters with the captain irate
at the officials as he made his way towards the tunnel, forcing striker Lyndon
Dykes to don the goalkeeper gloves for the remainder of the match.
Now, it has been confirmed on Friday that the R’s appeal for
wrongful dismissal has been upheld by the FA, meaning that Begovic won’t serve
a ban and will be available for their game today against Blackburn Rovers:
As much as it was plainly obvious that Begovic didn’t touch
Bamford, it does look like a bizarre decision to reverse in hindsight.
Begovic’s challenge, whether there’s contact or not, was at
waist height with his studs pointed up, which is a very dangerous attempt to
tackle the striker.
