Daniel James has no regrets as he opens up on Leeds United return amid Premier League hope — Leeds Live 15/10/23
The former Manchester United midfielder and Wales international is back at Elland Road following a loan spell at Fulham
Daniel James has no regrets over his loan move to Fulham
last season despite only starting five Premier League fixtures. The 25-year-old
joined on deadline day despite starting the season in the Leeds United team and
spent the campaign at Craven Cottage.
However, 15 of his 20 appearances came from the bench and it
wasn't quite the success he was hoping it would be during what was an important
season that included a World Cup tournament with Wales in Qatar. He is back at
Elland Road and looking to return to the top flight at the first time of asking
following Leeds' relegation last term.
After a winless opening three games under new boss Daniel
Farke, things are moving in the right direction with three wins from their last
four. Leeds United are now up to fifth in the table and progressing nicely and
James has been in the thick of the action having featured in all but two of
those 11 league matches.
He certainly looks to be enjoying his football, too, scoring
the opener last time out at home to Bristol City and chipping in with four
assists - the most of any Leeds player. He says it feels good to be back and
last season's loan move still proved to be a huge learning curve despite the
lack of starts.
James said: "Fulham was a good learning curve for me
and I don’t regret it at all. I didn’t play as much as I wanted to but, because
it happened so late in the window on deadline day, it takes a while to settle
and find somewhere to live. You’ve got children as well and the first two or
three months were very hard. The World Cup was coming up and it’s always hard
to settle in pretty quickly.
"It’s great to be back. As soon as I got back in the
summer I just wanted to play and show that I was there to stay and work hard.
We had a little bit of a tricky start, but we’ve had a good run of games and
we’ve just got to keep pushing. It’s always harder when you haven’t played many
minutes, not just physically but mentally as well.
“You need to get into the rhythm of games and I’ve got that
at Leeds now. I’m feeling fit and ready and, when that happens, everything
comes naturally."
