The FA have announced that Leeds United have been issued
with a £40,000 fine, with £20,000 suspended until the end of next season
following their incident against Newcastle United last season, which saw a fan
make his way onto the Elland Road turf and confront Magpies boss Eddie Howe.
The incident saw the supporter leave his seat, escape the
attention of stewards and reach the Newcastle United technical area, where he
pushed Howe before being escorted off the pitch and arrested. Later named as
David Derbyshire, the supporter was jailed for 12 weeks last month.
Following the incident Leeds banned the supporter from
attending Elland Road and Leeds United matches for life. The FA released their
verdict on the incident, plus the written reasons behind it today, adding that
the club have been warned as to their future conduct for breaching FA Rule
E21/1.
"Leeds United admitted that they failed to ensure their
spectators and/or supporters (and anyone purporting to be supporters or
followers) conduct themselves in an orderly fashion and don’t use words or
behaviour which are improper, offensive, violent, threatening, abusive,
insulting or provocative.
