New signing can’t wait to get started…
New signing Jimmy Kebe has outlined his determination to succeed at Elland Road by insisting: “I haven’t come here for a holiday.”
Kebe has joined on an initial loan deal with a view to a permanent switch should the club win promotion to the Premier League – and the former Reading winger is already thinking long-term.
“I haven’t come here for a holiday,” said United’s latest new recruit. “My target here is to play in the Play-Offs, minimum. “I know that Leeds are a big club and there are big expectations. The fans are right to ask the team to do well. My only target here is to play in the Play-Offs and get promoted.
“I feel great. As soon as I talked to the manager, he wanted me and I couldn’t wait to come here. I’m happy to come to Leeds.”
United’s second signing of the January transfer window knows the manager well from their time together at Reading, and Jimmy can’t wait to work with him again.
“I spoke to him on the phone and he said straight away, ‘do you fancy coming?’ And I told him that I would pack my stuff and come up that night,” said Jimmy.
“He knows me very well. He brought me over from France to Reading when he was a scout there. I enjoyed working with him then and I can’t wait to work with him again.
“It is very important when the manager has confidence in you. He has trusted me from the beginning and I know exactly how he wants to work and that (knowing him) makes things easier when you work with him.
“I spent six years at Reading and we had a good run of games with the manager and Nigel Gibbs in charge.
“He did some great things for the club and I loved my time with Reading but now that is over. Leeds is my new club and I can’t wait to be successful with this club.”
The midfielder admits to feeling frustrated by his time at Crystal Palace with a lack of first team football and he now can’t wait to get going at United.
“I was a little bit frustrated at Crystal Palace,” explained Jimmy. “But that is the case when you are not playing.
“That is now the past and I am glad to be here. I just need to play a few games and I will be back on track.
“I am ready to go of course. It is a big game at the weekend and I am here to win the game on Saturday.
“Whether you’re playing Sheffield Wednesday or QPR it is the same story, we have to get the three points.”
Before joining the club the winger spoke to players from our past and present.
“I have played with Ian Harte before, who was a big player for Leeds,” said Kebe. “So I know that Leeds is a massive club from when they were in the Premier League. We are now in the Championship and are a good team.
“We need to trust that we can do better and I am here to do better with Leeds.
“I also spoke to Noel Hunt before coming because I knew him from being at Reading. He told me straight away that it was a massive club and that there is something to do this season.”
