McDermott - I knew what was coming from the fans
Leeds United boss Brian McDermott says the fans reaction following the cup defeat at Rochdale will drive him on for the remainder of the season.
McDermott ensured the squad joined him in front of the 3,400 travelling fans at the end of the game who vented their anger after a dismal performance against their League Two opponents.
The Leeds boss now wants to repay the fans who endured the performance at Rochdale and he says the reaction from them will spur him on.
Speaking on BBC Radio Leeds, McDermott said, "We went to the fans at the end to thank them for their support and we got what I knew was coming. That will now be a driver for me in the coming weeks.
"We now need to invest in the team. We have done well to get to 35 points in the championship but we now need to invest and do it for the fans that travelled to the game.
"I have told the players to remember what happened on the pitch at the end because it was one of the worst moments of my footballing career."
