Leeds United’s abrupt Rasmus Kristensen statement sums up his dismal spell at Elland Road — Leeds United News 16/4/25

Leeds United have confirmed the permanent exit of Rasmus
Kristensen with the Denmark defender’s time at Eintracht Frankfurt now set to
last beyond the end of the season.
Rasmus Kristensen has been impressing for Champions
League-chasing Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany this season, in what is his
second loan spell away from Leeds United in two seasons following relegation.
The Danish right-back joined Leeds in the summer of 2022
from Salzburg. One of a number of players that formed a reunion with Jesse
Marsch that summer, along with Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams.
Expected to be Luke Ayling’s long-term successor, Kristensen
struggled defensively in the Premier League and towards the end of the 2022-23
season, Ayling had replaced him – and Denmark had dropped him.
Leeds statement shows Rasmus Kristensen exit was inevitable
Kristensen was one of eight players that used Victor Orta’s
loan clause to jump ship after the club was relegated. The group of players
were heavily criticised, leaving Leeds financially out of pocket in 2023.
The Dane joined Roma but Jose Mourinho immediately left
Kristensen out of Roma’s Europa League squad. Needless to say, it didn’t go to
plan and he was back at Leeds briefly, after playing at Euro 2024.
A loan to Frankfurt came next, but this time Kristensen has
starred alongside Robin Koch. A mainstay in the Frankfurt side, Kristensen has
had a hand in six goals in 38 appearances both in the league and cup.
Leeds’ statement on Kristensen’s exit lasted just 60 words
on Wednesday, showing how little he’s thought of both upstairs at Elland Road
given his decision to jump ship – and the little impact he had at Leeds.
The statement read: “Leeds United can confirm Rasmus
Kristensen has signed for Eintracht Frankfurt in a permanent deal, for an
undisclosed fee. The 27-year-old initially left for the Bundesliga outfit on
loan at the start of the season and will now remain at Deutsche Bank Park. He
departs Elland Road having made 30 appearances, after signing during the summer
of 2022.”
How much have Leeds lost on Rasmus Kristensen after sale?
The Athletic’s Beren Cross reports that Leeds have raked in
an initial fee of £5.1m for Kristensen from Frankfurt. That is just over half
of the fee Leeds paid to sign Kristensen from Salzburg three years ago.
However, Cross says Kristensen’s fee could rise to £7.7m – a
further £2.6m in add-ons. The definition of these add-ons is not disclosed, but
appearances and Champions League qualification could be reasons.
Ultimately, Leeds have made a loss on Kristensen and while
the incoming cash will be a bonus on the accounts – it is a loss in the eyes of
PSR. The same for Diego Llorente, Marc Roca and teammate Koch.
