Wilfried Gnonto latest as talks ongoing between Everton and Leeds despite £38m+ claims - Goodison News 1/9/23
By Callum O'Connell
Everton have been in touch with Leeds United again over a
potential deal to sign Wilfried Gnonto, but there is no truth to reports
claiming a fee has been agreed, according to Shamoon Hafez.
The BBC Sports reporter shared via his personal Twitter
account that, despite reports in Italy claiming a £38.5million deal had been
agreed between the two clubs, the Italian’s valuation has not yet been met.
A report from Italian outlet Sports Mediaset earlier today
claimed an agreement had been reached, and that Gnonto would say goodbye to
Leeds, but that appears to have been played down now.

Everton have been keen on bringing Gnonto to Merseyside all
summer and look set to make a huge final push before the transfer deadline as
discussions continue over a potential deal. Leeds have been sticking to their
high asking price all summer, with Everton still yet to match it.
Gnonto had previously gone on strike at Leeds in a bid to
force through a move to Goodison Park, but still, nothing materialised, and he
returned to the starting lineup with a goal against Ipswich as he showed
Everton exactly why they want to sign him.
Leeds have been steadfast in their demands, and will not
budge on their asking price, meaning Everton will either have to pay the huge
money they are asking for, or move on and pursue other targets before the
transfer window closes later tonight.
The Merseyside club are still trying to add further depth up
front and out wide, with Gnonto able to play in either role, as they are not
satisfied with the strength in depth in either position despite previous
signings this summer.
