Leeds interested in Liverpool defender Nat Phillips - The Athletic 27/6/23

Leeds United are interested in signing Liverpool defender Nat Phillips.

Leeds’s pursuit of the 26-year-old is believed to be irrespective of their head coach and sporting director appointments.

Despite that, former Borussia Monchengladbach coach Daniel Farke is among the managerial favourites to take over at Elland Road and the German was keen to recruit Phillips when in charge of Norwich City.

Liverpool are thought to be looking for up to £10million ($12.7m) for Phillips, who is under contract until 2025.

Phillips made only five appearances last season but helped Bournemouth to promotion from the Championship on loan during the second half of the 2021-22 campaign — something Leeds will be looking to do following their relegation from the Premier League in May.

The centre-back has made 29 first-team appearances for Liverpool since making his debut in 2020. He also spent most of the 2019-20 campaign on loan at Stuttgart in the 2. Bundesliga, featuring 22 times as they won promotion.

Leeds are still without a permanent head coach to replace Sam Allardyce and a director of football to replace Victor Orta. Earlier this month, they named former reading director of football Nick Hammond as their interim football advisor.
