Leeds United’s under-23s were beaten away to Simon Grayson’s Fleetwood Town in their second pre-season match.

The Whites opened the scoring from a Stuart McKinstry corner-kick which met Charlie Cresswell in the middle, whose bullet header was unstoppable for Alex Cairns between the sticks.

Summerville and Dean also came close to doubling the Leeds lead, with Summerville’s deflected strike being tipped onto the bar. Summerville had a hand in Dean’s chance as he nipped a pass into the middle for Drameh who helped it on to Dean in the middle. His first touch opened the space, his second drilled the shot just wide.

As the half was coming to a close, Fleetwood started to show their dangerous side as numerous chances in the space of ten minutes came their way, and it was a sign of things to come...

The equaliser came early in the second half as Van den Heuvel came out to meet a long ball, waiting for a split-second too long and lost the ball to Morris who calmly tucked the ball home into an empty net.

Then, Lewis Bate conceded a penalty as he tried to challenge Rossiter on the edge of the penalty area, and Garner converted, though Van den Heuvel came close to stopping it.

In the end, it was a difficult one for the youngsters, especially when Cresswell and Forshaw were taken off due to their leadership qualities and great performances. But there were of course some good signs, particularly in Cresswell’s excellent performance before going off due to injury.
