Leeds United: Let’s have more of the same - Mac

Leeds United banished the blues with a barnstorming defeat of Birmingham City, prompting a delighted Brian McDermott to demand more of the same from his rejuvenated team.
United brought a smile back to the face of their manager as a deadly first-half performance destroyed a woeful Birmingham side and set up a 4-0 victory at Elland Road.
Ross McCormack, Rodolph Austin and Matt Smith took advantage of City before half-time and Smith sealed an impressive result with a header on 74 minutes.
The display was an emphatic response to a severe loss of form before the international break, a spell which saw Leeds take six points from a possible 21, and McDermott was pleased to see United reassert themselves after coming under attack during their poor run.
“That’s the way it is in football,” McDermott said. “Especially in 2013.
“You can make a disaster out of anything and unfortunately that’s how it seems to be but I try and live on an even keel and at Leeds United in particular we need to live on an even keel.
“We need to create something very good going forward because we’ve got a great club here.
“This was my 20th game and I’m trying to find the best way to get this group of players to work. We found it today and the manner of the victory was really, really good.
“It sends a message out to our dressing room about how you win and why you win.
“Now that’s got to be done on a consistent basis, not just as a one-off – especially in this league.”
Beleaguered Birmingham paid a heavy price for their ineptitude, with a bad misjudgement from goalkeeper Darren Randolph leading to McCormack’s opening goal on 18 minutes.
City had no answer to United’s ambitious performance, despite a flurry of chances in the second half, and their manager Lee Clark was visibly furious as he faced up to an eighth loss of the league season.
By contrast McDermott had no complaints, saying: “I always enjoy winning and that’s what we’re in football for but the manner of the win was important too.
“We played some terrific stuff.”
