Mac staying tight lipped on skipper

LEEDS UNITED boss Brian McDermott admits he is clear in his own mind about who will be his captain next season – but is keeping his counsel.
The arrival of Luke Murphy, who skippered Crewe last season, has led to speculation that he could be handed the armband.
But while quick to herald Murphy’s qualities as a player and a person yesterday, McDermott is staying tight-lipped.
He said: “I have got my view on that and I know where I want that to go for the future.
“Luke’s a very good guy and a very mature man.”
Murphy admits he relished the responsibility of captaining Crewe last term – crowned by lifting the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy at Wembley – but feels there are plenty of ready-made captains already at Leeds.
He added: “It was something I loved, although it was a surprise to me to become captain. It all happened quickly with Ashley Westwood going to Villa.
“I took it and really enjoyed it.
“But it’s nothing we’ve discussed. There’s some unbelievable players here (at Leeds) and experienced ones, so I am sure the captain will be ready-made.”
Murphy will wear the no.6 shirt at Leeds, with Crewe receiving several add-ons along with a transfer fee.
Defender Lee Peltier was United’s first team captain last season.
