Diouf faces axe as McDermott aims to continue overhaul of his Leeds squad

Leeds are ready to sacrifice El Hadji Diouf to help finance manager Brian McDermott's plans for a major overhaul of his under-performing squad.
McDermott knows he has to offload players to free up funds for his recruitment drive and is anxious to remove top earner Diouf from the wage bill to clear the way for more signings in time for the new season.
Controversial former Liverpool and Bolton forward Diouf is paid between £10,000 and £12,000 a week and could be heading out of Elland Road after attracting interest from Championship rivals QPR, as well as Qatar.
His departure, with 18 months left on his contract, would give McDermott the means to continue a rebuilding programme that has already added Oldham target man Matt Smith, Crewe midfielder Luke Murphy and vastly-experienced former Reading striker Noel Hunt to a squad that flirted with relegation towards the end of last season.
Moves for two other players he managed at Reading, Kevin Doyle and Stephen Hunt, floundered due to financial restraints, but there could be a late rush of new arrivals, should buyers be found for players McDermott is ready to sell.
Apart from Diouf being lined up for Loftus Road or abroad, Sportsmail understands Blackpool are closing in on striker Ross McCormack and versatile Aidy White.
With Hunt and Smith both jostling for positions up front, Leeds can afford to lose McCormack and may also be tempted to listen to offers for the pacey White, who can operate as a full-back or winger.
McDermott has laid down a challenge to winger Ryan Hall, who was excused the recent tour of Slovenia after his partner gave birth but has been left pondering an uncertain future after also being left out of Leeds' subsequent pre-season friendlies.
'I have spoken to Ryan and told him to get his head down, work on getting as fit as possible and get himself back into the squad,' he said. 'He is part of things here, but he needs to work hard.' While saving Diouf's hefty wage would give McDermott more leeway in the transfer market, Leeds could be heading for another financial boost after considering a stadium naming rights deal with Red Bull.
Talks have taken place with the energy drink company about shirt sponsorship, but it is understood the possibility of adding their name to Leeds' iconic Elland Road ground has also entered the equation.
