Williams also heads for the exit door at Elland Road - YEP 4/7/13
Gwyn Williams is to leave his post as Leeds United’s technical director in another notable change of personnel at Elland Road.
The YEP understands that Williams has been placed on gardening leave while he and Leeds negotiate a deal to sever his contract.
The former Chelsea chief scout was informed of United’s decision earlier this week and his impending departure is the latest in a round of changes to affect the senior management team.
Ken Bates stepped down as club chairman on Monday after eight-and-a-half years in the role with United owner GFH Capital also announcing the end of Shaun Harvey’s long tenure in the chief executive role.
Minority shareholder Salah Nooruddin has replaced Bates as chairman and GFH Capital deputy chief executive David Haigh will control the day-to-day running of Leeds as managing director.
Williams has been employed as technical director since 2006 having previously worked closely with Bates during Bates’ reign as Chelsea’s owner.
His job focus primarily on scouting and player recruitment and he was named as caretaker manager for one league match following Dennis Wise’s resignation as manager in 2008.
Williams came in for criticism from ex-Leeds boss Neil Warnock, who claimed in his recently-published autobiography that he “never did work out what (Williams) role was” prior to his sacking in April.
