Daniel Farke reacts to Mykhailo Mudryk question and makes Leeds United transfer finances point — Leeds Live 24/8/26

Leeds United still want to make a series of additions before transfer deadline day next week.

Daniel Farke says Leeds United must make sure the club operates sustainably, "not just for a few months but a few years", and that transfers must make financial sense while still trying to be ambitious.

Leeds have recorded a summer net spend of around £50million so far, having splashed £80m on three new signings plus the free agent arrival of Harry Wilson. The club have been in talks with Chelsea over a loan deal for Mykhailo Mudryk but progress seems to have halted.

Leeds are after a left-sided attacker before deadline day next week and also need a new back-up striker, left-back and goalkeeper. United are hopeful of landing Eintracht Frankfurt shot-stopper Michael Zetterer, but little appears to have progressed in the other areas of need.

Speaking on Monday, ahead of Leeds' League Cup tie at Nottingham Forest, Farke would not be drawn on the "speculation" around Mudryk but is keen to add more transfers - as long as it does not compromise the financial stability of the club.

He said: "There are always many noises around Leeds. You get the feeling every agent tries to use our name to speak about his player because Leeds is a well-known club.

"Sometimes you are linked with players I've not heard about - of course I've heard of Mudryk, a really good player. But I won't comment about players playing for other clubs and no comment on speculation."

He added: "We've made no secret we want to make the best possible squad and for that to the last second we stay awake.

"We work with limited resources because we want to work sustainably. I'm pretty happy with our business so far, it's not like we’ve spent some other clubs.

"We want to make sure the finances are in the right place, not just for a few months but a few years. We are of course ambitious but it makes sense to do a financial deal... there is a possibility, we would like to add."

On the injury front, Gabriel Gudmundsson and Wilfried Gnonto are still nursing their respective hamstring injuries and have not yet returned to training. Ilia Gruev, though, has but Tuesday’s League Cup tie will also come too soon for him to return from his meniscus knee injury.
