Leeds United fan seriously injured in fall from tree during promotion parade — ITV 6/5/25

A Leeds United fan is seriously ill in hospital after falling from a tree while celebrating the club's promotion.

In an incident which was filmed on a mobile phone, the 23-year-old man fell several metres onto paving after a branch he was standing on snapped.

It happened as an estimated 150,000 fans gathered in Leeds city centre for an open-top bus parade by the Championship-winning side on Bank Holiday Monday.

Some climbed trees and bus shelters to get a better view as the bus snaked its was through the city.

The man had scaled a tree outside the Cuthbert Broderick pub in Millennium Square when he fell at about 4.10pm.

West Yorkshire Police, who are investigating, said he was in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

In a separate incident a 34-year-old man suffered serious head injuries outside Browns restaurant, in The Headrow, between 2.08pm and 2.19pm.

Police said he is being treated for injuries that are not considered life threatening.
