Angus Kinnear's parting words to Daniel Farke as questions persist over Leeds United future — Leeds Live 28/4/25
Angus Kinnear has waxed lyrical about Daniel Farke ahead of the CEO's departure to Everton this summer
Departing Leeds United CEO Angus Kinnear says the Whites
couldn’t have had “a better leader” in Daniel Farke to guide the club to
promotion, praising him for an “almost immaculate season”.
Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe is due to be at today’s
game amid fresh speculation that the club chief is set to hold a meeting with
Farke regarding his future this week, though Leeds Live understands these
claims are wide of the mark. It is not unusual for clubs to hold end of season
reviews and ask managers for their plans for the season ahead.
Last week’s reports claimed that 49ers Enterprises were
considering replacing Farke amid concerns about his ability to keep the club in
the top tier. Reacting to this at his press conference on Friday that he wasn’t
“surprised by the rumours” but had no time to waste on speculation.
Marathe will oversee a boardroom reshuffle this summer with
Kinnear set to depart to Everton after an eight-year stay. Sending his
congratulations in Monday's matchday programme to Farke, Kinnear waxed lyrical
about the coach.
He wrote: “I want to congratulate Daniel Farke on an almost
immaculate season. Recent history has shown this club needs a leader with broad
shoulders and unshakable belief, if it is to be successful.
“This season, Daniel has personified Kipling’s mantra, ‘if
you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on
you.’
“I don’t believe we could have had a better leader. A chance
of 100 points, a goal difference of +60 and a final run of four straight wins
to get over the line when the pressure was mounting should put this season
firmly in the history books as one of Leeds United’s best.
“The achievement is even more commendable when put in the
context of the challenging summer which saw three of our brightest stars
depart.”
Kinnear also sent a message to the fans to thank them for
their support throughout the season. “To sell out every game home and away,
despite this being our second season in the Championship, while 26,000
supporters remain on the season ticket waiting list, is a remarkable measure of
your passion and achievement,” he said.
“Every supporter deserves our thanks; from the structured
supporters groups who selflessly give up time to collaborate with us as
critical friends, to the supporters who struggle to get tickets but still show
their support by wearing club colours and give us the financial resources to
out-gun our key competition.
“Even supporters who regularly write obscenities on the back
of my car have played their part in keeping my ego in check.”
