‘I would be open’… Patrick Bamford makes clear statement on his Leeds United future as MLS switch pondered — Leeds United News 10/5/25

Patrick Bamford is entering the final year of his contract
at Leeds United, following an eventful but overall successful seven-year stint
with the club.
Leeds United have had very mixed opinions about Patrick
Bamford at times. But on the whole he’s been a very good servant for the club
and despite not starting a single league game in 2024/25, he remains a very
well-liked player.
In fact, Bamford didn’t score a single league goal in
2024/25 either. Injury limited him to just 17 Championship appearances in the
end with Joel Piroe winning the Golden Boot after scoring four goals in the 6-0
win over Stoke City last month.
For Bamford now, the future is uncertain. It’s widely
speculated that Bamford will leave Leeds United this summer, following the
club’s promotion to the Premier League under Daniel Farke. Although nothing
concrete has been said about the 31-year-old’s situation.
Ahead of the summer transfer window opening in June, Wrexham
have been linked with Bamford. For the time being the striker remains at Elland
Road although later in the summer, he could easily move to another club in
English football, or even move overseas with the MLS something he’d consider.
Speaking on CBS Sports Golazo from Leeds United’s promotion
party in Las Vegas, Bamford said of the possibility of moving to the MLS: “I
think it’s something that, obviously over time I’ve spoke to Michaela [his
wife] about it, in terms of playing abroad, and America being one of the
options. It was something that when I was younger I always wanted to do at some
point in my career, to kind of experience it, experience a new country, the
living the lifestyle there and also trying myself in a new league.
“I think once you have a family and a wife it’s got to be
run by them and to be fair they gave it the green light, and they said ‘look,
we’re going to go with whatever’s for you and whatever challenge you want to
want to take’, so it is something that I would be open to yeah, we just don’t
know when yet.”
Despite being a well-liked player at the club, Leeds United
simply need to move on from Bamford, and replace him with someone with a better
injury record, and someone who can better tackle the Premier League.
Following promotion as well, Leeds United players will
receive a pay rise and Bamford, already the highest-paid player at the club,
could now be earning some £70,000-a-week at the club.
It’s a huge amount of money for a rotational player. Farke
needs to be ruthless and clear that space for one or two other players and so
for Bamford, the MLS could be calling sooner than expected.
