Jamie Vardy sends Premier League warning to Daniel Farke and Leeds after Leicester relegation — Leeds Live 5/5/25
Leicester City have suffered relegation back to the Championship in their first year back in the top flight, and Jamie Vardy believes it's harder than ever for promoted teams
Leicester City's Jamie Vardy has issued a stark warning to
newly promoted teams about the rigours of the Premier League. Having ascended
as champions, Leicester are facing relegation after a challenging season.
Both Ipswich Town and Southampton have also been confirmed
for the drop, marking the second consecutive year that all promoted sides have
failed to stay up. Leeds United, under Daniel Farke, and Burnley are set to
attempt to defy this trend in the 2025/26 season, along with the play-off
victors. Yet, Vardy has signalled that the leap to the top flight is more
daunting than ever.
Speaking to Gary Lineker on Match of the Day, the veteran
striker reflected on Leicester's struggles: "It's tough. It's been really
tough," adding, "It's not like we've not been trying or not given our
all, it's just it's not clicked."
He further commented on the widening gulf between divisions:
"It's been one of those seasons. If I'm honest, I would probably say the
gap from getting promoted into the Prem now is probably as big as what it ever
has been, so it's even more difficult.", reports Leicestershire Live.
Vardy, who netted his 199th goal for Leicester in a victory
over Southampton, is aiming for his 200th goal in the remaining three matches
before his departure at the end of the season, concluding a remarkable 13-year
tenure with the club.
Jamie Vardy has opened up about his deep connection with
Leicester City, reflecting on his journey at the King Power Stadium. "It's
been everything. It's been mine and my family's life for 13 years," Vardy
shared, acknowledging the support from fans and the city.
"We've been taken in by the fans and the whole city,
and it's meant every single thing to me personally. Hopefully, with those
numbers you mentioned, that's me repaying them."
The striker also touched on the emotional aspect of
potentially leaving the club one day. "Who wouldn't miss it? When it's
been your life for that long and you see the camaraderie with the fans and my
teammates throughout the whole of those 13 years, it's been unbelievable."
Vardy's recent goal was a significant moment, ending
Leicester City's 146-day home goal drought, with Jordan Ayew also netting a
goal to secure the win.
Discussing the importance of breaking the goalless streak at
home, Vardy emphasised the need to change the narrative. "The main thing
is breaking a cycle - not scoring at home for a while. We knew we needed to get
that done, especially with the situation we're in," he said.
