This Is How Leeds United Identify And Sign Players – David Hockaday On Recruitment Process

Leeds United manager David Hockaday has explained how transfer targets at the club are identified and his role in the recruitment process.
Hockaday's remit is to manage and coach the team, then selecting the side for matchdays, while the player recruitment side of the Yorkshire giants is handled by director of football Nicola Salerno and president Massimo Cellino, in a decidedly continental style.
With the vast majority of Leeds' signings this summer having been players from Italy, questions have been raised as to how much input Hockaday has into new arrivals.
And the former Forest Green Rovers boss has outlined the process for selecting and then moving for transfer targets.
"We get in a room and names are put in a hat, and we all do our homework on them. And this one [latest signing Mirco Antenucci, ed.] got all the green lights. Then it's a case of the powers that be go and do their job", he told a press conference.
"It's a really interesting way of doing it, because I'm involved. And then we all go away and do our homework and talk to people, and yes, there's lots of green lights, there's lots of good players out there.
"Then you've got to go and get them for the right price and that's been the stumbling block, because it's been very, very difficult for the president and the director of football to get a lot of players over the line because of the finances. They're not going to do bad business."
Hockaday's men went down to a 2-0 defeat at Elland Road on Tuesday night to Brighton and will bid to bounce back when they lock horns with Watford this coming weekend.
