Italian striker Matteo Mancosu hasn't agreed a transfer to Cagliari, according to his current club, and he may be headed for Leeds United.
Leeds United have been making use of their Italian connections in the transfer market and Trapani marksman Matteo Mancosu may have rejected a Serie A switch because he wants an Elland Road switch.
Sardinian businessman Massimo Cellino has brought in compatriot Nicola Salerno to help recruit players for Leeds and the experienced transfer guru is attempting to utilise his extensive connections in Italy.
With deals for Marco Silvestri and Tommaso Bianchi being completed, Leeds may immediately move on to talented striker Mancosu.
It had appeared that Leeds were trailing Cagliari, Cellino's former club, in the race to snap up Mancosu, but the player's current club Trapani have denied any deal is done.
"We would be happy if Matteo were to make the step up to Serie A, but at the moment there is nothing concrete with Cagliari," Trapani sporting director Daniele Faggiano told Tuttomercatoweb.
According to the Italian press, Mancosu may be dragging his feet because his intended destination is Leeds United.
Mancosu has an impressive scoring record in Italy's lower leagues and has 40 goals in just 68 appearances for Sicilian side Trapani since 2012.
