Leeds battle with Chievo for former Italy international defender Alessandro Gamberini

LEEDS are planning an ambitious swoop for Napoli defender Alessandro Gamberini but face competition from Serie A side Chievo Verona. By: Alex Harris
According to reports in Italy, Napoli boss Rafa Benitez is willing to sell Gamberini who has eight caps for his country.
The 32-year-old spent part of last season on loan at Genoa and news of Benitez's desire to sell has alerted United.
Gamberini has plenty of experience having made nearly 200 appearances for Serie A giants Fiorentina and he was part of Italy's Euro 2008 squad.
United have signed a number of Italian's and players from the country's football leagues since Massimo Cellino took charge such as keeper Marco Silvestri and midfielder Tommaso Bianchi,
The club are also set to seal a deal for Roma midfielder Federico Viviani.
Dave Hockaday's side are also interested in Serie B outfit Siena's Italian defender Fabrizio Grillo.
The 27-year-old left-back spent last season on loan at Varese and Siena's financial difficulties means that he is free to leave.
"I have offers from Italy, I'm glad because there are a couple of concrete ones in England too", the defender told the press in Italy.
