Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino says he would never consider changing the name of Elland Road for money as he moves a step closer to buying back the stadium.
A trend in recent years is for clubs to sell naming rights of their new grounds for sponsorship. Arsenal, Bolton Wanderers, Brighton and Hove Albion, Derby County, Huddersfield Town, Leicester City, Manchester City, and Wigan Athletic have all chosen to sell the naming rights of their new grounds for sponsorship whilst Newcastle United angered their fans in recent seasons when owner Mike Ashley chose to rename St James` Park ending over 120-years of tradition.
Cellino says he now as the cash to buy back Elland Road and he understands what the name of the ground means to the fans of Leeds and he would never consider changing the name of the ground for sponsorship.
Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds, 'When people talk about Elland Road it's something that belongs to Leeds. How can we change the name of the stadium for money?
"Leeds is different from other clubs. I love the name Elland Road and it will remain the name of the ground.
"I am proud to be the president of Leeds and I will be proud to say we own Elland Road."
