By Tom Coates
Karl Darlow has reportedly agreed personal terms with
Manchester United following the expiry of his Leeds United contract.
The 35-year-old ended the 2025/26 campaign as the main man
between the sticks at Elland Road having dislodged Lucas Perri.
He impressed in Leeds’ successful battle against relegation,
helping to keep the Whites afloat with assured displays.
His contract expired at the end of last month and reports
indicated he had received offers from Manchester United and Everton.
Karl Darlow nears Leeds United exit
He looks to have chosen to sign for the former, as Sky
Sports have claimed Darlow is on the verge of completing a move to Old
Trafford.
Both Darlow and midfielder Andrey Santos are said to have
passed medicals, with both reportedly due at Carrington today (July 10) to pen
deals they have agreed.
Darlow will become the second senior goalkeeper to leave
Leeds if he does indeed depart, following Illan Meslier’s free transfer switch
to Arsenal.
His exit will leave Perri as the only contracted senior
goalkeeper in Daniel Farke’s squad, although Alex Cairns is reportedly set to
remain at Elland Road following the expiry of his deal.
Leeds have been linked with an array of goalkeepers and will
most likely step up their hunt for one if Darlow is unveiled by the Red Devils.
Karl Darlow’s time at Leeds United
Darlow arrived at Leeds from Newcastle United in the summer
of 2023, penning a three-year deal in West Yorkshire after the Whites dropped
out of the Premier League.
He initially had to play second-fiddle to Meslier and it was
not until the latter stages of the 2024/25 campaign that Darlow moved into the
number one spot.
The Wales international was demoted back to the number two
role when Perri arrived from Lyon in the summer of 2025, but Darlow returned to
Farke’s XI midway through last season.
He has made a total of 38 appearances for Leeds, although
his relationship with supporters will be soured if he completes a move to their
bitter rivals from across the Pennines.
