Inside Joe Gelhardt's Leeds United exit as medical to go and Daniel Farke firm on decision — Leeds Live 13/1/25
Joe Gelhardt looks set to move across Yorkshire to Hull City
Hull City are confident of finalising a deal to sign Leeds
United forward Joe Gelhardt in the next 24 hours, providing the young forward
completes a medical this afternoon. The 22-year-old is set to sign with the
East Yorkshire club on loan until the end of the season after informing Leeds
of his preference to stay in Yorkshire amid a number pf prospective clubs
seeking the forward's signature.
The Whites sanctioned Gelhardt's departure last week after
having previously informed the young player at the start of the year that he
would likely be allowed out on loan to get some game time, after playing just
nine minutes of the Championship campaign so far for Daniel Farke.
While Patrick Bamford's injury which will rule him out until
potentially February could be seen as a reason for holding up or even ending
the Gelhardt deal, Leeds remain happy to let the player leave in a deal they
know is best for all parties at this stage of his career.
Despite some media suggestions a medical took place
yesterday, Gelhardt will travel to London today where Hull City have previously
held some of their medicals, and will undergo a medical after the terms of the
deal were finalised at the weekend.
While it remains a very slim possibility the deal could be
announced today, it is now expected to be confirmed on Tuesday, or Wednesday at
the latest with Tigers boss Ruben Selles keen to get to work with the player
and potentially hand him a role in his team for this Saturday's early kick-off
at Millwall.
Hull travel to London on Friday afternoon after their final
training session, but Selles is eager to work with Gelhardt for as many
training sessions as possible before a key game for the Tigers, who are in a
relegation fight and were yesterday dumped out of the FA Cup at home to League
Two Doncaster Rovers.
