Report: Burnley 0-0 Leeds United — Leedsunited.com 27/1/25
A point and clean sheet for the Whites.
Leeds United travelled away from home to face Burnley in
battle at the top end of the Sky Bet Championship table, taking away a point in
the late Monday evening kick-off in Lancashire.
Both teams were in fine form coming into the match, scoring
goals and also keeping plenty of clean sheets between them at the opposite end,
so an intense tactical battle was expected under the lights of Turf Moor.
When the starting XI was announced, Daniel Farke had made
just the one change from our last outing - the win over Norwich City - as Ilia
Gruev came into the side, he replaced Joe Rothwell who was named on the bench.
The early stages were as expected, both teams looking to
work each other out, with the visitors having the majority of the possession.
When chances did come, they went without trouble to either
goalkeeper. Brenden Aaronson struck a free-kick into the wall, Jayden Bogle’s
left-footed effort missed the target, whilst at the other end Zian Flemming
flicked a header wide from Jaidon Anthony’s cross.
Not through a lack of trying, but due to defences being on
top, chances remained limited throughout the opening 45 minutes.
Crosses from either wing came into the box and were dealt
with, along with set-play opportunities which followed in the same fashion,
cleared by the defence.
The first half was brought to a close with the match still
on level terms, meaning it was all to play for in the second half.
HALF TIME: Burnley 0-0 Leeds United
Back out at Turf Moor, neither bench had made a change when
the teams returned from the tunnel which meant the starting XI’s were back out
battling again.
The 2,283 fans inside the away end could be heard
throughout, supporting their side amongst the overall attendance of 21,329
inside the ground.
The conditions remained wet under foot and the wind was also
strong, meaning everyone needed to remain on alert for any unusual activity
from the ball.
Chances were still limited in the game though, so with 20
minutes to play, Farke turned to the bench. He brought on Largie Ramazani and
Mateo Joseph, replacing Manor Solomon and Joel Piroe.
Both changes stretched the Burnley back line and looked to
get in behind them, but they continued to stand firm.
In the final moments, James Trafford was called into action
and produced an excellent save. From a corner, the ball fell kindly for Dan
James who struck on the half-volley, only to see the Burnley ‘keeper tip over
the bar.
That was to be that and it was a point apiece and another
clean sheet each at Turf Moor, confirmed upon the sound of the full-time
whistle.
