Honest Joe Gelhardt opens up on his time at Leeds United under Daniel Farke — Leeds United News 15/1/25

Joe Gelhardt has completed his loan move from Leeds United
to Hull City with the Championship club confirming a deal on Wednesday
afternoon, and he has been speaking to Hull’s website.
The 22-year-old striker was always expected to leave Elland
Road this month after just three appearances under Daniel Farke during 2024-25.
He is Leeds‘ fourth-choice striker, and way down the pecking order.
With Joel Piroe having a hand in 15 goals and Mateo Joseph
deemed one of the club’s best talents even if his form has not mirrored that in
recent months. Patrick Bamford is third-choice even if he is injured.
Gelhardt had no option but to leave. Clubs like QPR,
Plymouth, Preston and even Scottish side Rangers have been linked but following
Leeds’ 3-3 draw against Hull, Gelhardt has joined Ruben Selles’ Hull side.
Even in Farke’s first season, Gelhardt struggled for
minutes. That is despite Farke being of the opinion that Gelhardt can play out
wide, as a 10 or as a striker with Gelhardt only managing less than 400
minutes.
Speaking to Hull City’s website, Gelhardt said that he has
been craving the reward of training all week to be handed game time at the
weekend. Something he has lacked while Farke has been manager at Leeds.
“Every footballer wants to train hard all week and get
rewarded with playing on the weekend. That hasn’t happened for me in the last
few years. I’m really excited to play again, get that matchday feeling back.”
Where does Joe Gelhardt’s long-term future lie now?
This is the second time Gelhardt has left Leeds on loan. The
first time saw Gelhardt go on loan to Sunderland but he managed only three
goals in their pursuit of promotion, reaching the play-offs.
Gelhardt has a contract at Leeds until the summer of 2027
and would have left Leeds in the summer. That is according to Graeme Bailey,
who told LeedsUnited.News that Gelhardt is on ‘huge money’ at Leeds.
If Leeds get promoted, Gelhardt has no future at Leeds
unless he scores a goal a game at Hull. If Leeds remain in the Championship and
does well at Hull, then there is every chance he could be reintegrated.
