Ethan Ampadu: We're going to give it everything — Leedsunited.com 9/8/24
Midfielder previews our season opener.
Leeds United face Portsmouth at Elland Road on Saturday
lunchtime, as the 2024/25 Sky Bet Championship season gets underway.
Ahead of the campaign opener on home turf, our newly
appointed captain chatted with LUTV, to give his thoughts on pre-season for his
side.
He said: “This pre-season has been really good.
“We've shown a good togetherness, not just on the pitch, but
off the pitch, and we've had a good time. Obviously, there's been a lot of hard
work, but yeah, we're ready now.
“I've said many times since it got announced that it's huge
pride [being captain of Leeds United].
“It's hard to put into words how proud I am, but also for my
family, it's a massive achievement and I know all the pressure that comes with
it.
“I know there's been a lot of amazing captains before me and
if I can try to see what half those guys have done to lead Leeds the way they
have, it would be great.”
Onto the game and the league itself, Ampadu is expecting
another hard-fought season, with many teams looking to battle at the top end of
the table.
“Obviously, it's going to be challenging,” the captain
explained.
“It's going to be relentless again. I think it's like that
every year, so we're not expecting anything different.
“But hopefully, we're expecting from ourselves a little bit
more. We're prepared to put all the work in for it.
“The fans can expect a team that's going to give you
everything again, everything for the badge, everything for the fans, everything
for everyone.
“I think that's always been Leeds. So, we're going to give
it everything.
“We know that Portsmouth are going to come flying with
confidence. They won the league last year, so they're going to be flying with
confidence and want to build on that.
“It's going to be a tough game, but we know what we can do.”
