Daniel Farke: We’re disappointed we didn’t win the game — Leedsunited.com 10/8/24
Leeds United played out a 3-3 draw with Portsmouth on Saturday lunchtime, in the season opener at Elland Road.
The Whites got their Sky Bet Championship campaign off to a
perfect start with an early goal, before the away side hit back, forcing Leeds
to come from behind twice to claim a point.
Speaking after the match, Daniel Farke gave his thoughts to
the media.
He said: “Of course we're disappointed we didn't win this
game.
“In many spells it was a pretty dominant performance. But
it's also a sign in this league you always have to be switched on.
“Small situations can change the whole game. When we
conceded the third goal in the 92nd minute, normally you lose such a game.
“What we showed then, again, the mentality to come back was
great. So in these terms I'm really happy and pleased with how they reacted to
this adversity, to equalise two times, the second time after conceding in the
92nd minute.
“So for that, although we are just a bit disappointed, I
would say also many, many positives to take out of this.
“We will allow ourselves to be a bit disappointed today and
then just speak about the positive topics from tomorrow.”
After scoring from the penalty spot in the opening day draw
with Portsmouth at Elland Road, Pascal Struijk gave his thoughts to LUTV.
The defender played the full 90 minutes in a game that went
both ways, ultimately ending 3-3 and in a point apiece.
“It’s the Championship, sometimes you can dominate the game
and still lose or draw,” Struijk explained to LUTV, after the match.
“This is, I would say, a typical Championship game where
anything can happen.
“We knew it was going to be difficult because they're a
newly promoted side, just look at Ipswich last season, they came full of
confidence.
"We knew it was going to be tough, but at the
beginning, we had a lot of chances and only scored one. Then they scored two
and we had to chase the game a little bit.
“When you concede a penalty at that time in the game, it’s
very tough, but the lads showed real character to turn it around and get a
point out of this game.
"Every team is going to play their best here. Every
week will be a difficult test as everyone will give their all, so it’s a
challenge we need to be up for."
