Glen Kamara arrives at new club after Leeds United transfer developments — MOT Leeds News 13/7/24

Leeds United midfielder Glen Kamara has arrived in Rennes
ahead of completing a transfer to the Ligue 1 club, according to Nabil Djellit.
The French journalist posted on X with an update stating
that the 28-year-old has been a long-time target of Rennes director Andoni
Zubizarreta, who looks to be on the brink of finally getting his man.
Despite only signing last summer, the Finnish international
appears set to depart Elland Road within 12 months, albeit for a healthy profit
on the £5million fee the Whites paid Rangers for his services [Fabrizio Romano,
13 July].
Collecting a handsome £3.5million increase on the transfer
fee paid just a year ago is a positive development from a profit and
sustainability viewpoint, with the Whites ever under the microscope [Kieran
Maguire, 27 May].
However, given Daniel Farke’s side came so close to
promotion last season, losing by a single goal in the play-off final, Kamara
exiting Elland Road hardly suggests that continuity is at the forefront of
their plans.
Archie Gray has already departed in a £40million deal to
Tottenham, and despite Joe Rothwell arriving on loan from Bournemouth, Kamara’s
departure would still leave a hole to fill in the Whites’ midfield [Graham
Smyth, 1 July].
Rothwell will certainly add the goalscoring-from-midfield
edge which Kamara in particular lacked last season, but is a completely
different profile of player and cannot be seen as a direct replacement
[LeedsLive, 13 July].
As a result, more defensive-minded players will be on
Farke’s mind if and when Kamara’s exit is sealed, a distraction hardly ideal as
the new Championship season comes quickly into view.
