Daniel Farke shares update on Max Wober future and whether he will be at Leeds United next season — Leeds United News 20/7/24

Daniel Farke has given an update on Max Wober’s future at
Leeds United following the pre-season friendly win at Harrogate Town.
The Whites ran out 3-0 winners in North Yorkshire thanks to
goals from Junior Firpo, Georginio Rutter and Sam Chambers, in what was their
first outing of the summer.
Unlike Brenden Aaronson, Wober was not in attendance at the
match which raised yet more question marks on where his future lies for the
upcoming season.
Wober spent last season on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach
but they have so far been unable to meet Leeds’ asking price over a permanent
deal.
Farke had been giving consideration to bringing both Wober
and Rasmus Kristensen back, though the latter took that decision out of his
hands by joining Eintracht Frankfurt.
Wober claimed before Euro 2024 that he had no idea what his
future held, before then revealing during the tournament that talks would get
underway once he was out.
Following Austria’s last-16 exit to Turkey, Wober has now
been away for two-and-a-half weeks, which is slightly less than what Aaronson
had.
Farke was asked to give an update on Wober’s future to BBC
Radio Leeds following Friday night’s win at Harrogate.
The Leeds boss confirmed Wober is due back for testing today
and hinted that he does see his future at Elland Road for the upcoming season.
He said: “First of all we will have the guys back with
Brenden Aaronson and Max Wober. This will be beneficial for us.
“Max will arrive tomorrow and start with some testing.
Hopefully also from Sunday onwards with us in the first team on the pitch. It
is important to have these lads back.”
One of the things we learned last night is that Farke may
well be open to a formation reshuffle, having gone with a back five/three.
It allowed Junior Firpo and Dan James to play as wing-backs,
with Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rodon and James Debayo lining up in the centre of
defence in the first half.
Wober’s skillset could suit that position perfectly, adding
to a defence on paper that looks absolutely incredible at this level.
Jayden Bogle is close to joining Leeds and would be at
right-wing-back, with Firpo on the other flank if he stays, giving him even
more license to get forward.
Rodon, Wober and Pascal Struijk would then be the three
defenders, and with Ethan Ampadu shielding that just in front, Leeds won’t be
conceding many goals.
