Montenegro and Adryan shine as Leeds hit six
Vital Leeds 6/10/14
Leeds United cruised into the third round of the Premier League under-21 development squad cup with a 6-0 win over Yorkshire neighbours Doncaster Rovers.
Leeds included summer signings Brian Montenegro, Dario Del Fabro and Adryan in the side and there was also places for Alex Cairns, Chris Dawson, Zac Thompson and Noel Hunt with first team experience at Elland Road.
Adryan, Montenegro and Dawson all shone for Leeds with the trio all on the score sheet. Montenegro netted twice and there was also goals for Thompson and Hunt.
Montenegro opened the scoring with a powerful header on ten minutes and Zac Thompson almost doubled the lead soon afterwards when his long ball forward almost embarrassed Rovers goalkeeper Jonathan Iveson.
Thompson did double the lead just before the half hour as he fired home from 20-yards.
Adryan had almost got in behind the Rovers defence just before he scored. On the first occasion, the ball took an unlucky bounce off his knee but he made no mistake with his next chance as he buried his chance from the edge of the area to make it 3-0 right on the half time whistle.
Dario Del Fabro also went close for Leeds in the first half but his effort came back off a post.
Hunt made it 4-0 early in the second half. The over-aged player fired home with his left foot from the edge of the area.
Dawson scored a deserved goal on the hour when he was put in by a defence-splitting pass from Thompson.
Hunt then picked out Montenegro for the sixth, who fired home from close range with the Rovers defence nowhere to be seen.
Leeds looked like they could add to the score in the final fifteen minutes with substitute Luke Parkin, fellow substitute Tyla Bell, Zac Thompson and Adryan going close to adding to the total.
Whilst all the talk has been about Adryan and his debut with the first team, fellow midfielder Dawson must also be close to a first team call after another impressive display.
