Leeds United: Byram may miss Slovenia tour due to hip problem

Brian McDermott will assess the fitness of prize asset Sam Byram over the coming week before deciding whether he will accompany the Leeds United squad on their pre-season tour of Slovenia.
Earlier this month, Byram was forced to withdraw from the England Under-20 squad currently on World Cup duty in Turkey due to a niggling hip injury which forced him to miss United’s final two games of the 2012-13 Championship campaign.
Byram was at Thorp Arch as United’s players reconvened for the start of pre-season training.
But he will be monitored before the club flies out to Slovenia on July 8.
Manager McDermott who confirmed he is not looking at any trialists at Thorp Arch, said: “Sam still has this slight hip problem, so we will have to look after him for a week or so to see how he is to get him to Slovenia.”
Virtually all of the first-team squad are being put through their paces at Thorp Arch, although defender Tom Lees has another week left of his break following his exertions with the England Under-21 squad in the recent European Championships.
Striker El-Hadji-Diouf is due back in training on Monday. (July 1)
