Leeds United Football Club - Boss Wants Four More
Whites boss Kevin Blackwell is looking to strengthen his squad by bringing in at least another four players before United begin their Coca Cola Championship campaign against Derby County.
Leeds have so far added eight new players to the squad but 20 players have left the club since the beginning of last season and Blackwell is keen to find cover for a number of positions.
Blackwell did hope to be able to announce the signing of another keeper before the squad left for Sweden, but that deal is on the back burner now until the squad return next week. United are still confident of getting their man.
"I don't think it's a secret that I have put a few bids in for players and we're waiting on the progress of those now," said the Leeds manager.
"I have no doubts that we will get four or five new players in before the season starts."
Three of those signings could be trialists Craig Hignett, Brian Deane and Steve Guppy, all of whom played in last night's 2-0 friendly win over Bodens.
All three are available on free transfers after being released or falling out of contract at their previous clubs, and they will be given enough time and plenty of opportunities this pre-season to impress Blackwell.
Blackwell has also not closed the loan option route despite United having mixed success after embarking down that avenue last season.
Arsenal's Jermaine Pennant was a good acquisition, but others, such as Roque Junior, did not even last the full term. The new United boss is likely to look at the Premiership only if he does bring in a player on a season long loan.
"I don't think we want to go abroad and bring six or seven players again, there are too many things that have to come right for them to work right.
"We would not rule out looking abroad, but we have to be a lot more selective in the future."
